Frederick Bowman (1889-1978)
Fred Bowman was born in Berlin, ON (Kitchener today) on October 24, 1889. Graduating in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1911, Bowman made his career as a bridge engineer working for the Dominion Bridge Company in Lachine, QC. He took retirement from the Company in 1959. Fred Bowman was a prolific numismatist authoring several works including his 29-volume manuscript Encyclopedia of Canadian Coins, Tokens and Medals (1962), which currently resides in the Bank of Canada Museum.
